USS Somerset - Navy Warship Departs New Orleans
February 3 2014 | news
The USS Somerset – the last Navy warship built at the local Avondale Shipyard, departed this morning for its commission ceremony in Philadelphia, passing the Steamboat NATCHEZ dock. It is the last of three ships made of commemorative items from the 9-11 attack on the United States. Somerset is the name of the county where United Flight 93 crashed. A “Line the Levees” tribute, drawing thousands of people along the river was organized by Charlotte Binnings to send off the ship and her sailors.
